As I was glancing through the Yahoo home page a couple weeks ago I noticed a story about Modern Family in the feature graphics. The controversial episode was featuring the toddler dropping the f-bomb. I clicked to read more and while I found the story line a little bit funny, as it has been know that a toddler to uttere a swear word as they learn the English language although they are corrected and told not to use those words. I read down to the bottom of the article to learn that the broadcast television indecency law is before the Supreme Court to repeal it.
I am outraged over this and I do not wish to deregulate broadcast television so that networks can have free reign on profanity and nudity. There's a huge difference between monitoring what your children are watching and having choices that are appropriate, and not being able to watch television anymore because any show on the air can contain nudity and profanity. Even during late night hours, I do not wish to turn on dramas, comedy, talk shows, or skit shows and hear profanity and see nudity. We don't swear or walk around naked in my house and I don't want to see it or hear it on TV.
This opens the floodgates for advertisers as well. When I think commercials already go to far and sexually oriented products, like ED medications, lubes and lingerie, are advertised during family shows, I can only imagine what we will see when there are no restrictions.
Regulations are in place for a reason. We are an educated, civilized society and should continue to maintain high moral standards. Both children and adults should have a safe haven for television viewing and not be forced to endure profanity and nudity.
Since when does "quality" mean swearing and nudity?

BTW, the toddler on the Modern Family episode actually said fudge.

Got credit card debt? Three years to debt free...
With the new year, we have a renewed opportunity to get our lives back on track. Including credit card debt. I came across this article on how to reduce credit card debt in three years.
An explanation of how to pay is included and is easy enough to figure out. It is included on your credit card statement. There are two sections that explain how long it will take to pay off your credit card debt, one by paying the minimum payment which will take 30 or more years to pay off. The other shows the payment needed to payoff the debt in three years time.
If you can't afford to pay the 3 year amount due, at least due the best you can to pay more than the minimum.

Make a Change in 2012
2012 is quickly approaching. People start thinking about making resolutions. I think it's best to make a list of goals for teh year. Include small goals that are attainable and some larger goals that will take some work to get. I talked to a girl at work who, gasp, does not recycle. Anything! In this day and age I find it hard to believe that everyone is not at the very least recycling cans and newspapers. I told her to start by just recylcling one can or bottle a week. She will be contributing and learning the habit of recycling and seeing just how easy it actually is. And this will make an impact on the environment.
Same goes for saving money, paying down debt, dieting, working out, becoming more social, starting a hobby, whatever it is. Start small. Making a small committment gets you started. Then you can expand down the road.
If you don't work out, start with a 15 minute walk twice a week.
If you want to eat healthier, substitute one bag of chips for an apple and trade one can of soda for water each week. Then increase to twice a week.
Make it easy and attainable so you will actually succeed.
Then add a couple bigger goals. It's good to challenge yourself. If you don't commit to something every year to challenge yourself, you will never grow as a person or do great things. This could include travel, learning a new language or picking up an instrument, skiing or playing tennis.
Have a happy new year!

It's Not What She Says---It's How She Looks
After seeing the movie Miss Representation, I have become even more aware of the derogatory comments made about women on T.V., movies and in the media. If you watch even an half hour of T.V. in a night you can count a dozen or more comments that we make about women that we don't make about men. Comments about what she was wearing, if she looked heavy or not, if she is attractive or not, if she looks young or not, if her hair-do is appropriate or not, if she is dressed well or not, if her body is toned or not, if her rear end is big or not! It is ridiculous what we put women through. We pick them apart and then we wonder why young girls are so insecure!
I turned on "The View" for 10 minutes and within that ten minutes Whoopi Goldberg and several others commented on Michelle Bachmann. The only thing they had to say about her was she is attractive and looked good on her interview on the "late late show". They also said she wasn't going to win the election but not one of them commented on her political views. Do they even know what they are? Isn't that the reason we have elections?
It is time that the media changes and women are not so sexualized and there is more respect. Even women can't stop commmenting on what other women wear, and what they look like. Enough is enough it is time for a change! Gossip shows, gossip magazines, mean cruel comments about women it has got to stop!! It hurts all of us every time we say a mean cruel comment, buy a gossip magazine, watch a gossip show we are hurting ourselves in the long run. Just remember that someone will be gossiping about you too. Do you like it? Let's stop putting each other down and start supporting each other, we will all go alot further if we help each other instead of bring each other down.

This Holiday Season, Buy USA
When you are out shopping this holiday season, check labels and buy American. The best way to improve our economy is to buy American-made products. Let's support American workers, American companies and buy American-made products. We're spending our money, let's invest it in ourselves.
I went to Carters today which I always assumed was American-made and was shocked to see the clothing was made in Indonesia, China and Cambodia. I left the store without buying anything.
Remember to also support the mom and pop shops.
Keep America strong and buy USA.

Shirtless Vampires Turn Men off Twilight
I heard a conversation about the movie Twilight and this man saying that this movie has killed the movie genre for all vampire movies. One of his grievances was the fact that they men are shirtless throughout most of the movie and how they seem to rip their shirts off for no apparement reason. I have to laugh because now he knows how women feel about being forced to see women shirtless and even completely nude in almost every movie made that is rated PG13 and R and above. Proving that nudity or partial nudity is not needed and if it's not appropriate for men, then it should be appropriate for women to take their shirts off. And quite frankly, it is more inappropriate for a woman to take her shirt off then for a guy to take his shirt off. How about we let the movie industry know that we should keep the shirts on, for the men and the women.
Finally the shoe is on the other foot and men see how it feels to have to watch hot guys taking their shirts off and they don't like it. Well women don't like seeing hot women taking their shirts off either.
Sign up for Miss Represenation and see how you can have a voice and make a positive change for the representation in the movies.

"Excused"--Excuse Me, But I am Disgusted!
I just saw about 10 minutes maybe less of a show on T.V. called "Excused", I was so disgusted I had to turn it. The show was about two guys that sit in a room with an announcer (a girl) and then outside the building a bunch of girls, seperately ring the doorbell. The guys get a preview of what she looks like through a surveilance camera and then they decide if she can come up to their room.
The girls try to say witty (usually with sexual innuendos) things to try and get these guys to let them in. Then the guys tell the announcer what they think of the girl and the announcer has to let the girl know if she was rejected or excepted and why.
It was so pathetic, these girls flaunted themselves and basically implied that if the guys let them up they would get a piece. It was so sad to me, to see that girls would demean themselves like this. The guys were basically critizing her on how she looks and what she said. The girls that they found unattractive were rejected. The guys said things like "I wish she had a better looking face, she's ugly!"
Basically, the guys were checking out these girls like pieces of meat and rating their face, body and how sexual she acted. What happened to society? Why do we treat humans like commodities! Why are women not respecting themselves. These girls reminded me of street corner hookers that were trying to earn some money by turning a trick. Is this how girls want to be treated? Like meat? I think it's time to get back some good old fashioned values! Girls you should let the guy treat you right by taking you out, getting to know you, and speaking to you, and about you, with RESPECT!!!! I hope there are some women out there who agree that it is important to gain a man's respect, if you want to be treated well by him. How can a man respect you if your are acting desperate and needy. If you are offering and flaunting yourself and begging him to accept you! This society needs to change, women need to demand respect by respecting themselves. Women need to stop settling for less than what they want just to have a man. If women would stop putting up with men's bad behavior men would change. They would know that they aren't getting anything from a women unless he treats her with respect.
It makes me sad when I see women being cheated on, disrespected, mistreated and lied to, and they still put up with it because they don't want to be alone. If all women wouldn't put up with the "bad boy" behavior men would change. It is time that women start getting more respect from men!
Of course, this show called "Excused" is the media once again making women look like sexual objects with not much to offer but sex. Why are so many women agreeing to do these things that degrade themselves and make it harder for all women to get any respect!
